Michael Kobori (former Chief Sustainability Officer, Starbucks) — 'the relentless gravity of our financial architecture has inverted this model'

Closing a LinkedIn series on how boards hold strategic focus under short-term financial pressure, Kobori argues governance has to move from risk-managing crises to actively restoring purpose — and names Incorruptible as the influence on that turn. He sets out three commitments for boards: return to purpose, structural alignment of board and management, and redefining markets. He was Starbucks's first Chief Sustainability Officer and spent thirteen years leading sustainability at Levi Strauss & Co.

“Over the last several decades, the relentless gravity of our financial architecture has inverted this model. It has elevated short-term shareholder maximization above the purpose of the enterprise.” — Michael Kobori on LinkedIn
